Hershey’s Faces Backlash from Bakers Over Broken Kisses Tips
Most people probably open up a Hershey’s Kiss from its infamous silver wrapper and pop it into their mouths without thinking otherwise. The deliciously sweet piece of chocolate is the perfect after-dinner treat!
But people who use the candy to bake with actually care about what the dark brown blob looks like, especially if they’re using them as the center point of a cookie.
So it make sense that a few bakers were absolutely horrified to realize that out of all the bags of kisses they bought to make cookies with, the majority didn’t have that iconic swirly tip. Instead, all of the curly-cues were broken off!
“I know this will sound funny, but when you are making hundreds of Christmas cookies and you have numerous bags of kisses and 95% don’t have the tips it does make a difference in presentation,” said Laura Magone, the group administrator of a Facebook baking group called Wedding Cookie Table Community in Pennsylvania.
The group is absolutely distraught over the missing swirly tips. So much so that one of them even called Hershey themselves to ask the brand about why all of the Kisses tips are broken off.
So what’s Hershey got to say about it?
“The iconic, conical shape is one of the reasons families have loved Kisses for generations. We shape the tip on our classic, solid Milk and Dark Chocolate Kisses to create that iconic appearance,” said Jeff Beckman, director of corporate communications for The Hershey Company. “And while there has always been some variability in that process, we are working to improve the appearance because it’s as important to us as it is to our fans.”
Okay, so it’s nice to hear that they’re going to try to mediate the problem, but what exactly is the reason for the missing tips on Hershey’s Kisses?
