On a recent episode of her podcast “Let’s Be Honest,” former “Laguna Hills” star Kristin Cavallari revealed that her dad hasn’t been a part of her life for the past two years.
On the podcast, Cavallari explained, “I cut my dad out of my life about two years ago, which has honestly been the best thing I’ve ever done.”
Why did Cavallari make that drastic decision? She claims it’s because her dad is a narcissist, and his behavior was impacting her three children, 11-year-old Camden, 9-year-old Jaxon, and 8-year-old Saylor, who she shares with her ex-husband, Jay Cutler.
Cavallari explained, “I actually didn’t even realize that my dad was a narcissist until I was an adult. All I knew growing up was that I didn’t want to be around him. He always made me feel like I wasn’t good enough. But then the flip side of that is sometimes he would put me on this pedestal and talk me up. Now, as an adult, looking back, I’m like, Oh, it was when it benefited you and made you look good.”
She went on to explain that she was fine with “the abuse,” but she wasn’t fine when it impacted her children. She said, “How I cut my dad out of my life was something happened with my kids and it crossed the line and I was like, You know what? I’m f–king done.”
Her dad didn’t take the news well. Cavallari continued, “And he blamed me for it, like threw everything back in my face.” She explained, “When you start messing with my kids. I’m not doing it.”
Cavallari’s followers were quick to jump to her defense and praise her for her decision. Some fans also shared similar stories.

Cavallari’s relationship with her father has never been perfect, and it only got worse when her brother died in 2015. He crashed his car in a rural part of southern Utah and died of hypothermia due to the freezing temperatures.
In 2020, on an episode of “Very Cavallari,” she shared, “My dad and my brother were close, and, because of that, I think our relationship is very surface. It puts a little bit of a void between us.”
