Florida Drops COVID Restrictions on Bars, Restaurants and Nightclubs As Cases Soar

While the coronavirus pandemic is far from over, it has never been more apparent that what state you live in really matters as far as what restrictions and precautions are in place.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has officially moved the state into Phase 3 of reopening. This means that masks are no longer required throughout the state and that businesses are allowed to reopen at 100% capacity instead of 50% capacity, which was the previous limitation.

Cities and counties in Florida are no longer allowed to fine people for not wearing a face mask or social distancing. All business types are allowed to reopen. DeSantis said that even if there is a second wave, businesses will not be shut down. “If we see an increase, we’re not closing anything going forward.”

Not everyone is happy about these changes in Florida. CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta said, “These are all the wrong sort of decisions as far as actually trying to bring this pandemic under control.”

DeSantis told FOX News, “We have to have a situation where individuals can make decisions about what makes sense for them. If it’s something you are not comfortable doing, nobody will force you to do it. But I think people need to be free to choose.”
