Newly Released Video Footage Shows Gender Reveal That Caused an $8 Million Wildfire

If you are a longtime reader of ours, then you know that we love giving you the scoop on the latest and greatest in gender reveal parties. Some folks just get so creative with these events! Over the years, we’ve shown you some very inventive ones, including a unique gender reveal trick, a posthumous gender reveal, and even a gender reveal delivered by talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.

Today, we have yet another gender reveal video to show you that certainly does get an “A” for creativity, but it, unfortunately, the event caused a whole lot of devastation.

It all went down last spring when an off-duty Border Patrol Agent Dennis Dickey of Green Valley, Arizona decided to fire a bullet into an explosives-filled target that was, apparently, equipped with either blue or pink powder. Perhaps, unsurprisingly, this ammo-charged gender reveal did not go as planned; instead of giving family and friends a one-of-a-kind show, the agent, instead, ended up starting the $8 million Sawmill Fire when his explosives hit the parched brush.

Thought the agent did report the fire immediately, he still had to be held accountable for his actions. Earlier this fall, a judge sentenced Dickey to 5 years probation. He will also have to pay $220,000 in restitution for his role in the unfortunate event.

There goes his kid’s college fund!

To see this fiery–and oh-so-dangerous!–gender reveal flub for yourself, be sure to watch the video below. Maybe this soon-to-be-dad should have stuck with the old “balloons in a box” reveal!

We can’t wait to hear your take on this disastrous gender reveal stunt. Are you surprised that this Border Patrol Agent would attempt something so dangerous? Do you think that he received adequate punishment for his negligence? Do you have a story of a gender reveal party gone bad?
