Usually, an expectant mom or couple will have their ultrasound results sent to a trusted friend, who will then make or commission an ordinary party favor to be filled with either a pink or blue interior.

For instance, many couples opt for the “cake route.” A plain-looking dessert will be set in front of them, but when they cut into it, they will be met with either a pink or blue cake. Cute, right? In the case of today’s video, the couple decides to, in fact, go the “cake route”—but that doesn’t mean that things are necessarily as clear-cut as they initially appear to be…

How one clever couple “re-mixed” their gender reveal party

The video opens ordinarily enough, with an anxious pregnant couple getting ready to slice into a delicious-looking cake that sits in front of them. They are, of course, surrounded by plenty of eager family members who, interestingly, seem to be voicing their hopes.

Yep, showing up to a gender reveal party and saying, “I want it to be a boy” or “I hope it’s a girl,” seems like playing with fire to us, but this must be a betting family because it’s obvious that most are hoping for a little boy.

But, unfortunately for them, the family didn’t quite play their cards right because when the two cut into the dessert, everyone is met with the sight of a pink cake. Of course, the well-wishers clap anyways—although that future grandmother does seem pretty disappointed!
