Mom Shares Why She’s Grateful For Her Ex’s New Girlfriend

Anyone who comes from a blended family knows that there can be MAJOR drama between parents and step-parents. More often than not, there’s tension and even some bitterness between exes, so when a new partner comes into the picture, it tends to makes things worse. And not just for the former couple and their love interests, but for their kids, too.

Kids being the mix always makes things a little more complicated. The dynamic between kids and parents change when they split (most of the time) and then there’s the whole matter of how they’ll interact with the boyfriend or girlfriend.

Sometimes, the kids hit it off with the new partner and sometimes they don’t. Either way, this can cause residual tension between the partners and the exes…there’s a lot of layers, obviously.

But that’s not the case with everyone, and Loving-Henry family is the perfect example of just that.

Audrey Loving first met Corey Henry when they were 18. They got engaged and had a daughter, Riley, who’s now four-years-old. Unfortunately, the couple struggled with a long distance relationship, as well as personal differences, causing them to breakup. The distance between them has given Loving full custody of Riley, but dad Henry is still very involved during the weekends.

Then Henry met someone else and the two started very seriously dating. When Audrey was made aware that Henry had begun to date someone else, she was determined to teach her daughter to love and accept the new family member. Having come from a blended family herself, Audrey knew how difficult things could be when you’re fighting to get along with your mom and your step-mom (or step-mom figure).

After encouraging Riley to be very open with dad’s new girlfriend, the little girl really hit it off with the new woman in her life! Audrey was so proud of her daughter and pleased with the new role model in her life that she took to Facebook and wrote this:

“This is my daughters fathers girlfriend. The sweetest thing ever! I’m super thankful for her because when she visits her dad she feeds her, takes care of her, buys her gifts, and basically takes care of her like her own. Why do all these moms act so spiteful and jealous towards the other women? NOONE said it was easy trying to be a mother to a kid you didn’t have. So when there is someone trying, don’t push them away! Because they DON’T need the drama they WILL leave and then you’re stuck with someone who is the evil step mom. Yes they exist! I see them everywhere! A kid can have two moms because in my eyes the more people that love her I’m happy! I would never make her feel like an outsider; I’m extremely thankful for this girl.

Ladies, grow up and focus on being a good mom. Love more hate less!”

Her Facebook post has since garnered 5,000 messages from others dealing with a similar situation.

By keeping the best interest for her child in mind and trying to be the best parent, Loving has fostered a warm environment for her daughter. We hope Riley grows up with nothing but love in her life! What’s more, we hope that other separated couples with kids take a cue from Audrey’s graceful attitude.
