For many families, it has been weeks since schools closed and Safer at Home began. That means it has been weeks since kids have seen their friends.
Sure, we can talk about how hard it might be for parents to work from home while their kids are at home and how confusing this whole new world of distance learning can be to figure out at times. Those are real issues, but those are issues that are mainly about the parents trying to work and help their kids learn.
While some kids probably miss actually going to school and learning, what a lot of them really miss is seeing their friends. They miss playdates and visits to the playground at the park. They miss having their friends over and seeing them at school, church or their sports activities. No wonder kids might be a little extra hard to handle right now.
Sesame Street knows that kids are having a hard time right now, and as usual, they want to help. Recently, Big Bird stopped by CBS This Morning to talk about how his life has changed, how he’s processing his feelings and what song he sings while washing his hands. He also has an exciting virtual playdate coming up with his friends, and we’re all invited.
On April 14, 2020, you and your kids can watch a special broadcast of Sesame Street called “Sesame Street: Elmo’s Playdate.” The program is 30 minutes long and is set up in a video conferencing style that mimics what a real virtual playdate might look like for our kids.
Special guests will join the Sesame Street residents. You can expect to see Big Bird, Elmo, Grover, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby along with celebrities Lin-Manuel Miranda, Anne Hathaway and Tracee Ellis Ross.
This show will be something fun for kids to watch while also showing them how they can have fun with their friends via virtual playdates.
