Domino Foods Inc. has issued a voluntary recall of certain lots of Domino pure cane granulated sugar. The specific product impacted by the recall is Domino Pure Cane Granulated Sugar 50-pound bags including lot numbers 75315A1, 75315B1, 75315C1, 75321A1, 75321B1, 75321C1 with UPC code: 015800030515. This recalled bags of sugar, about 4,500 in total, were distributed in California and Utah.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has set the recall to a level II, the second highest level. According to the FDA, this level is used when “use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.” In this case, the product may be contaminated with foreign objects.

Newsweek reached out to Domino Foods Inc. about the recall and was told, “Our traceability records allowed us to immediately contact the limited number of recipients who returned or disposed of the products before they could be made available for purchase by the public. No product was purchased by consumers.”

No illnesses have been reported in connection with this sugar or this recall. As Domino told Newsweek, the sugar was not distributed to the public. However, if you recently bought a 50 pound bag of Domino sugar, it couldn’t hurt to check the lot number, and if you happen to have the recalled product, do not consume it.

Northeastern University food policy professor Darin Detwiler previously told Newsweek: “While not as urgent as Class I recalls, Class II recalls should still be heeded, and the products should be returned or disposed of according to the instructions provided.”
