Dolphins Surprise Wakeboarding Woman

Water sport adventures can come with a handful of surprises, even for people who do them every day. Wipe-outs, injuries, and encounters with marine wildlife don’t deter folks from seeking thrills in the water.

This is especially true for people who make a living off of water sports. For the crew at Pro-Windsurf La Ventana, a normal beach excursion turned into an unbelievable experience within minutes. While boating in the Sea of Cortez and towing a wakeboarder, Wyatt Miller decided to capture the outing on film. Good thing he did!

It’s not unusual to see creatures that live in the ocean doing what they do, but if they sneak up on you while you’re visiting their turf, the result could be a shock. Some animals have no problem photobombing, videobombing, or inviting themselves to a meet-and-greet with humans. In this video, the woman on the wakeboard got a mix of all of those.

We see the sun glistening on beautiful water, with a pod of dolphins jumping and swimming peacefully nearby. The sight of the woman being towed by the powerboat immediately brings to mind thoughts of Jaws and those talented but unfortunate water skiers. Should we be watching this video through our fingers?

As the boat picks up speed, she keeps looking off to the side and it’s unclear if she’s just enjoying the dolphin scene or watching out for someone. Uh-oh, cue up the scary lurker music. Our only comfort is the grinning boat driver giving the thumbs up. Maybe this isn’t so bad. The dolphins are moving in closer as if to say, “Hey lady, wanna play?”

Then it becomes clear. The woman swings to the side and the dolphins are swimming around her! Catch all the action and elation by watching the whole clip. Uploaded by Pro-Windsurf’s Wyatt, the video has over 19,000,000 YouTube views, and is the best videobomb ever.

You probably know that dolphins are extremely intelligent and fairly amicable towards humans. In the waters of Baja, Mexico where this was filmed, there are a few different species of the amazing animals that tourists can catch a glimpse of in the wild. Bottlenose, spinners, and long beaked are among them.

In their line of work, Wyatt and his team get to see these and other ocean beauties like whales on a regular basis. This is so much cooler than visiting an attraction where they keep dolphins as entertainment. To see a pod this up close is a gift and would definitely bring out the kid in anyone!

You can’t blame water sports enthusiasts for loving a thrill-filled lifestyle, where one of its perks are rare opportunities like this. A whole world exists in the water and it’s amazing moments like the one in this video that serve as a reminder of nature’s splendor.
