Dolly Parton Has Withdrawn From Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Consideration After Being Nominated

Being nominated to be inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is an honor that many musicians would be excited about, but sometimes, musicians don’t wanted to be inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. For example, Axl Rose and John Lyndon both protested being inducted. Instead of attending the induction ceremony, Lyndon even sent an angry letter to be read at the ceremony instead.

We don’t think angry letters are Dolly Parton‘s style, but like Lyndon, she does not want to be inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, at least not yet. On Instagram, Parton shared that she has been nominated for consideration in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but she wants to withdraw her nomination. She explained, “Even though I am extremely flattered to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I don’t feel that I have earned that right. I really do not want the votes split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out.”

Why doesn’t Parton feel that she has “earned that right” to be nominated? She didn’t say exactly, but we can infer that it’s because she is known as a country music singer and has not done an album that is specifically rock and roll. Parton wrote, “This has, however, inspired me to put out a hopefully great rock ‘n’ roll album at some point in the future, which I have always wanted to do! My husband is a total rock ‘n’ roll freak, and has always encouraged me to do one.”

Even thought Parton does not want to be considered for induction in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, she may have bowed out too late. Nominations have already been sent in. Other nominees include A Tribe Called Quest, Beck, Duran Duran, Eminem, Judas Priest, Lionel Richie and MC5.

Do you think Parton will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame even though she has requested to withdraw herself from consideration? Do you think Parton will actually do a rock and roll album? If she does, do you think she would have another opportunity to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in the future?
