Twenty seven years ago when expecting my first child, we bought all mismatched, but solid, furniture at yard sales. We then painted it with white lacquer and we had a beautiful nursery. Some of the pieces are still in use. I never had a separate changing table. I used the top of a small dresser, which stayed with the kids through childhood.For many years, their Christmas gifts were from yard sales. I just choose gently used toys and packaged them myself.
