Disney Plans To Launch Its Own Netflix-Like Streaming Service This Year

Incredible news for all of you Disney fans out there: the iconic studio has announced that it will be launching its very own streaming service this year. According to sources, the service will be similar to established competitors like Netflix, Hulu, HBO Go, Amazon Prime, and others, except it will include all of Disney’s classic and exclusive content.

At the moment, details about Disney+ (that’s what the streaming platform will be called) are just emerging, but we do know that the brand is promising a whole lot of cool stuff to its future subscribers, including all of the films and television shows that viewers can no longer find on the aforementioned competitors’ platforms.

If you are a die-hard Disney fan, you’ve probably noticed that streaming services, like Netflix, have recently made a number of Disney classics unavailable. Clearly, it wasn’t a mistake or a bad marketing plan–Disney has made the choice to pull these titles so that they can be made exclusive on Disney+. Maybe a controversial decision for the other streaming service subscribers, but no doubt a good call for the company.

Along with all Disney-branded titles, such as Disney Live Action, Disney Animation, and Pixar, Disney+ will also include all of the uber-popular franchises that the entertainment giant has picked up over the years, most notably the Star Wars franchise. The company has confirmed that it will include all of the movies, beginning with Star Wars: Episode IX. The fan-favorite series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars will continue, a live-action show entitled, Thee Mandalorian will premiere, in addition to a Rogue One prequel series starring Diego Luna.

In addition to Star Wars, Disney+ will also include many of the beloved titles from the Marvel universe, even the series that Netflix canceled, like Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.

Disney purists looking for a new fix will be happy to hear that the studio is also set to launch a series of shows based on its most classic content. Fans can expect to see revamps of old-school selections, such as a 2019 version of Dumbo, as well as TV series based on the incredibly-popular Pixar release, Monsters, Inc.

Although not much is known about the price and exact release date of the platform, we do know that it will be available sometime in the latter part of 2019. To sweeten the deal, industry experts seem to think it will be a bit more affordable than Netflix. Good to know!
