Apparently, more than two months after his death, Graham Nash publicly revealed that his former bandmate, David Crosby, of the band Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, has died at the age of 81.

In an interview for the podcast “Kyle Meredith With…”, Nash revealed that Crosby died on January 19, 2023. He said that Nash started feeling sick while he was on tour, and it turns out he had Covid-19.

Nash said, “He was rehearsing for a show to do in Los Angeles with a full band. After three days of rehearsals, he felt a little sick. And he’d already had COVID, and he had COVID again.”

Crosby’s sick feeling went from bad to worse very quickly. Nash shared that when Crosby realized he had COVID again, he “went home and decided that he would take a nap.” Crosby never woke up from that nap. Nash explained, “he never woke up. But he died in his bed, and that is fantastic.”

When Crosby died, his family didn’t give a specific cause of death. Instead, they said he died following “a long illness.” It turns out that the illness was a long list of health problems he had battled over the years including multiple liver transplants, heart disease and diabetes, then add Covid to the mix.

In 2022, Crosby talked to Variety about his pervious experience with Covid-19. He described it as “awful” and “a weird disease.” He said, “It makes you feel absolutely freaking awful. It has been thoroughly unpleasant…it’s no fun at all. You want to avoid it if you possibly can.”

Considering Crosby’s lifestyle for much of his life, including drug addiction, Nash thinks that Crosby actually lived a surprisingly long time. He explained, “I think the truth is, we expected David to pass 20 years ago. I mean, the fact that he made it to 81 was astonishing.”

Nash and Crosby didn’t always get along, but towards the end of Crosby’s life, the two were on pretty good terms. Nash shared, “I’m very pleased that David and I were getting closer towards the end.” He added, “The music is the most important part of our relationship.”

Rest in peace.
