Parents everywhere are accustomed to the word “sacrifice.” Whether it’s time, money, energy, or your own personal happiness, the job of a parent is to make decisions that will benefit their kids, rather than themselves. And, oftentimes, that requires a lot of sacrifice.

This dad is a prime example of that parental sacrifice. When he was 16-years-old, this dad restored an 1936 Ford Sedan all on his own, and the car quickly became his most prized possession. He was so proud of it that as a young man he frequently took the Sedan to many competitive car shows around the country, often coming away with first prize medals.

But when he and his wife decided to start a family in 1993, things changed. Their daughter, Stephanie, wanted to go to a seminary, and her dad made the painful decision to sell his beloved car in order to pay for that schooling.

This was undoubtedly an emotional and difficult thing for him to do, but he knew it was the right thing for his daughter.

“My dad talked about this car for as long as I can remember, always saying he would buy it back if he could find it,” Stephanie wrote on YouTube.

In 2013, Stephanie decided to return the favor to her amazing father. She began to search for the 1936 Sedan, inheriting his dream of locating and purchasing the old car.

After months of researching and hunting, Stephanie finally found her dad’s prized possession online. The final purchasing arrangements were made and Stephanie’s entire family came together to pool the necessary funds, which is a truly touching thing. The family had to have the Sedan shipped halfway across the country to get it to dad’s doorstep – but it finally arrived in mint condition.

All that was left to do, naturally, was to surprise dad with the beloved car he hadn’t seen in 21 years.

When he comes around the corner of their house and into the driveway, where the 1936 Sedan is parked, the look of shock on his face is enough to make you cry! He’s obviously in complete shock and has to step away for a minute before approaching his old car, tears of joy in his eyes.

His big question? “Where did you keep it?” He asks, completely blown away. Truthfully, we would like to know, too! His entire family (including his wife) found, paid for, and shipped this car hundreds of miles, just to hide it right under dads’ nose. Incredible.

With his whole family standing around him, dad reads the scripture verse (Matthew 19:29) which is written on the Sedan’s key. The scripture speaks of people who sacrifice and do the right thing, even if it means giving up their own happiness, being rewarded “tenfold” in the end.

What a beautiful story of sacrifice, familial love, and the truth that kindness can come back around to affect you when you least expect it.
