CVS Is Now Offering Free Delivery of Medications So High Risk People Don’t Have to Venture Out

A great way to avoid getting sick is to avoid going places where you might pick up germs. Sure, washing your hands is extremely helpful, but staying away from crowded places is also helpful.

If your immune system is in tip top shape, you may not be too concerned about going places to run errands or pick up groceries. (Get some moisturizer for your hands while you’re out.) The problem is that some people have health conditions that might make a quick trip to the store a bad idea, especially if that store is a pharmacy where many people who are sick visit on a regular basis (because, medicine).

People who are already sick are even more at risk than healthy people if they pick up new germs, so staying away from crowds and even stores isn’t a bad idea. The problem is that people who are sick often need prescription medication, and that means they have to visit their local pharmacy. Or do they?

CVS Pharmacy announced that they are delivering prescription medications for free. That’s huge news and very helpful for anyone who needs to refill their prescription!

The new free shipping policy starts immediately. There is currently no end date set for this policy either, but it may not last forever. We say, place that order for free shipping while you can.

Here is an excerpt from CVS’s press release:

“Beginning immediately, CVS Pharmacy will waive charges for home delivery of prescription medications. With the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention encouraging people at higher risk for COVID-19 complications to stay at home as much as possible, this is a convenient option to avoid coming to the pharmacy for refills or new prescriptions.”

That’s great news, but it gets even better if you have insurance through Aetna, a CVS Health Company.

“Aetna will waive early refill limits on 30-day prescription maintenance medications for all members with pharmacy benefits administered through CVS Caremark.”

Troyen Brennan, M.D., M.P.H., Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, CVS Health explained why these changes have been made.

“When you’re in a position to increase convenience and help provide some peace of mind, you act. As long as COVID-19 continues to be a threat, we’ll maintain a relentless focus on how best to serve our patients, members and customers.”

Do you have Aetna insurance? Will you take advantage of free home delivery for prescription medications?
