Courteney Cox Reveals The Issue She Had With Rewatching Herself On ‘Friends’

Have you ever watched an old video clip of yourself on your phone and thought, “man I hate the sound of my voice”? Or “I look horrible!” Or, frankly couldn’t stand seeing your own self looking back at you?

Of course you have. For whatever reason, most people have trouble watching themselves back on screen. It’s such a difference than looking in the mirror—it can just really make you feel self-conscious, wondering, “Do I really sound like that? Why did no one tell me my hair looked that bad?” Most people tend to be overly critical of themselves the most over any other person, especially when it comes to their voice or looks in a video clip.

Well, guess what? Celebrities are no different. Most stars actually can’t stand to see themselves on the big screen and don’t even watch their TV show or movie after it comes out on air!

Take Friends actress Courteney Cox for example. She starred as Monica on 10 seasons of the popular sitcom, and even though it’s one of the most popular shows still out there, she says she has a hard time watching the episodes herself.

In fact, she once told Jimmy Kimmel that she barely even remembered filming a lot of the episodes, if you can believe that. This was during a time when she began to re-watch some of the seasons when the pandemic began. She found herself realizing how awful her memory was!

“I keep getting asked all these questions about ‘Friends’. But I don’t remember even being on the show,” Cox had said at the time. “I have such a bad memory. I don’t even remember even being on the show. I remember loving obviously everybody there, and having fun, and I remember certain times in my life that I was there. But I don’t remember episodes. I would never pass. I fail every test.”

In general, watching herself during the episodes is difficult for her, specifically when TV channels do one particular thing. She sat down with TODAY’s Willie Geist to share the difficulty she encounters when rewatching episodes of the iconic sitcom, and why.

Take a look at the video below to hear her take on watching the show herself!

Do you think if you were a movie star it would make it easier or harder to re-watch yourself on TV? How do you feel generally watching yourself back at you in a video clip?
