When I think of my dream home that I’ll hopefully have someday, I always imagine a really nice pool in the backyard. And while that day may be a long way off, there’s one thing to consider for all of us longing for summer days by our own cool waters: where in the world to safely put it?!

Unless you have acres and acres of land – in which case, put in that pool and invite us over, friends! – it can be a sticky question. Whatever bit of land you give over to a properly-constructed pool can’t be used for any other purpose, and – especially if you live in a colder clime where really good swimming weather can be limited to only a few weeks – giving up that prime real estate can be a real conundrum.

But what if it didn’t have to be? What if you could have a pool when you wanted it— and a place to walk, dance, sit, barbecue or anything you could imagine the rest of the year? And what if you could have it all with the push of a button?

Friends, it’s not an impossible dream or even a design dilemma. It’s a real thing, and it’s in the video down below: the Pool with a Moveable Floor.

You could just as well call it the “Pool with a Moveable Cover,” for they’re one and the same thing. With just the touch of a button, the wood floor-cover hybrid rises and falls. In its upper position, it’s a dry, rigid standard pool cover. In its lower, it’s the bottom of the swimming pool, and what’s more, you can adjust its height and the depth of the water to meet your family’s own particular needs.

The design comes from Israeli company AGOR Engineering Enterprises Ltd., who specialize in these amazing transformative pools. The thinking behind them is all to do with safety:

The most common concern with an outdoor swimming pool is, above all else, safety. AGOR’s moveable floor systems adhere to stringent safety standards, with the unique ability to lock the floor in its covered position and adjust water height in accordance with children’s height and swimming ability. AGOR’s moveable floor for swimming pools is based on next generation technology, innovative design concept and custom manufacturing. When fully deployed, the system is able to support nearly three times the average (kg. per sq.m.) load. Once installed, the converted space results in a uniquely strong, durable and reliable swimming pool cover, safe and resilient surface for any type of recreational or social event.

Isn’t that awesome? Not only do you get the benefit of a pool when you want it and yard space when you need it, but this system seems like a much safer alternative than typical pool covers, too. Since it ascends up from the bottom rather than descending and covering, there’s no chance of anything or anyone being trapped beneath the cover like something out of our worst nightmares.

Just my worst nightmares? Got it.
