7 Clever and Creative Ways to Banish Mosquitos

Summer is, hands-down, my favorite season. I love nothing more than being able to spend time outside, eating, playing, lounging and just soaking up the warm weather. Being a New Englander, I just have to enjoy this weather while I can! However, there is one thing about summer I would get rid of if I had one wish. Nothing can ruin outdoor time like those pesky, blood-sucking mosquitos that seem to follow me around wherever I go. Luckily, we’ve got several tips that I’ve tried to great effect. Use any combination of these to remain bug-free and bite-free this summer.

  1. Use the Power of Plants:

  2. Keep these plants close by and mosquitos are sure to fly in the other direction.

  3. Make Your Own Citronella Candles:

  4. Create your own candles on the cheap and light them up when you need to keep the bugs at bay.

  5. Make a 3-Ingredient All-Natural Bug Repellent Spray:

  6. Use lemon, fresh rosemary and water to create a mild spray repellent that smells great to you and terrible to mosquitos.

  7. Wine Bottle Tiki Torches:

  8. If you’re looking for a method that also looks great at an outdoor gathering, you’ll want to opt for these easy, DIY wine bottle tiki torches.

  9. Eat Garlic:

  10. Mosquitos can’t stand garlic. So if you eat a lot of garlic, it will actually help you to stay bug-free.

  11. Blow Them Away With a Fan:

  12. Set up an electic fan that sweeps back and forth where people are sitting. Mosquitos won’t be able to fly straight when there’s a “breeze” like that around you.

  13. Carry Around a Dryer Sheet:

Mosquitos do not like the chemicals contained in dryer sheets. So to keep bugs away, rub your clothing down with a dryer sheet, then tuck it into one of your pockets.
