No, Chick-fil-A Won’t Make an Exception and Won’t Open for the Super Bowl
If you’ve eaten at Chick-fil-A even once in your life, chances are you’ve become obsessed. The chicken sandwiches, the waffles fries…really any food item on the menu at the chain is pure perfection.
But besides their drool-worthy fare, there’s something else Chick-fil-A is notoriously known for: Being closed on Sundays.
The company attributes the rule to its founder, Truett Cathy. “Having worked seven days a week in restaurants open 24 hours, Truett saw the importance of closing on Sundays so that he and his employees could set aside one day to rest and worship if they choose—a practice we uphold today,” the website states.
Okay, that’s fair. We just wish it was a different day they chose to close—like a Tuesday or a Thursday. Sure Sundays are known for being a day of rest, but they’re also known for being the day you want to veg out on an original chicken sandwich with two pickles on a toasted butter bun!
Nerveless, you will never see a Chick-fil-A location open on a Sunday for this reason. Not even on Super Bowl Sunday.
That’s right, the chain is standing by their policy on a day they’d surely tons of business (since who doesn’t enjoy delicious fried food while watching football?).
All Chick-fil-A locations will remain closed that Sunday, which includes the location near section 123 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, where the Super Bowl is held. We think there will be a lot of disappointed Chick-fil-A fans at the Super Bowl!
The franchise operator, Jonathan Hollis, doesn’t see the big deal. “We’re open for about 100 events a year that happen right here at the stadium,” he said. “We have Atlanta United soccer games, concerts, college football games, high school football games, band competitions and more. We even have a monster truck rally!”
So does Chick-fil-A EVER make an exception to their closed-on-Sundays rule? Actually, they do. There was only a few rare times Chick-fil-A has ever served food on a Sunday—when there were emergencies.
One was when a number of Dallas locations offered meals for recovery crews after a tornado outbreak in 2015, and another was in 2018 last year when they offered food to stranded travelers at the Atlanta airport after a power failure.
We guess they don’t quite consider an extreme hankering for a chicken sandwich on Super Bowl Sunday an emergency. Sigh.
Besides, it would be a pretty big hassle for Chick-Fil-A to set up shop on that Sunday anyway. The stand near section 123 will be open on Super Bowl Sunday as “Fries Up,” which serves French fries with various toppings. So at least fans can get their fix of those.
Despite not opening their doors on Sundays, Chick-fil-A is still known as one of the best limited-service restaurants in the country. Want to know how they stacked up to others? Check out the video below!
