Chadwick Boseman’s Wife Accepted the Actor’s Golden Globe on His Behalf With An Emotional Speech

Chadwick Boseman quickly rose to fame when he was cast as King T’Challa, the “Black Panther.” He may be best known as a superhero, but he acted in more than just Marvel movies. He was also in a Spike Lee movie named “Da 5 Bloods,” and more recently, he played Levee in a Netflix movie called “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.”

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” is the true story of blues legend Ma Rainey. Boseman’s character was a musician that was very talented yet tormented.

Boseman was undeniably talented, but while acting in the film, he was also quietly battling colon cancer. He kept his struggle quiet, but he lost the battle in August 2020.

The world grieved the actor known for his portrayal of the Black Panther, and now that it is awards season, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association decided to honor his talent.

During the Golden Globes ceremony on February 28, 2021, Boseman won in the category Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture. His fellow nominees included Riz Ahmed, Anthony Hopkins, Gary Oldman and Tahar Rahim.

Since Boseman was obviously unable to accept the award himself, his wife, Taylor Simone Ledward, accepted the award on his behalf. She also gave quite the emotional acceptance speech.

Ledward worded her speech to explain who her late husband would have thanked if he had been able accept the award himself. She also explained what she thought he would have said.

He would thank God. He would thank his parents. He would thank his ancestors for their guidance and their sacrifices. He would say something beautiful, something inspiring, something that would amplify that little voice inside all of that tells you that you can … that tells you to keep going that calls you back to what you are meant to be doing at this moment in history.”
