People on TikTok Are Just Figuring Out That All Ceiling Fans Have Hot and Cold Switches
If you live somewhere where it gets really warm in the summer, you probably know how helpful a fan can be. Even with the air conditioning on full blast, a fan helps circulate the air and keep your home cooler. Also, it’ll probably help cut down on your electricity bill since you won’t have to run the air conditioner as much.
Ceiling fans are particularly useful because they circulate air throughout the entire room really well, but did you know that ceiling fans aren’t just for warm weather? They can actually be used in cold weather in order to help your room stay warm. This feature is a good thing during the winter, but it’s a bad thing during the summer if you don’t know the feature exists.
TikTok user @bertoncin never knew his ceiling fan had two settings. He had it on pretty much all the time to try to keep his room cool. It didn’t seem to help, but he didn’t understand why until he was Facetiming with one of his friends. In a TikTok video, he shared that his friend got up and moved a switch on his ceiling fan in order to keep the room warmer.
At this point, @bertoncin suddenly realized what he had been doing wrong all these years. He suddenly understood that his ceiling fan must be on the hot setting which was actually making his room warmer instead of colder. Watch his TikTok below to see his honest reaction to realizing his fan has two settings and to see how to change the settings.

If you have a ceiling fan in your room, you’re probably standing on a chair or your bed right about now looking for that little switch. You’re not alone. Many other TikTok users never knew their ceiling fan had two switches either, and @bertoncin’s video is what clued them in. They too have come to realize that one little switch can make a very big difference.

Have you ever noticed that your ceiling fan’s blades are at an angle? In the “hot” setting, the blades are angled so that they push the hot air down because hot air naturally rises to the ceiling. In the “cold” setting, the blades are angled so that they pull the hot air up to the ceiling to help the room cool down faster. It’s not just about circulating air. It’s about where the air is going.
Did you know that your ceiling fan has two settings? Was your fan on the correct setting or were you accidentally making your room warmer than intended?
