Full House star Candace Cameron Bure has one of the best presences on social media of most actresses. From Instagram to TikTok and all the accounts in between, Candace has such a lovely demeanor, and is no small amount of humor. However, that doesn’t mean she always gets it right or never gets a hate comment.

Keeping up with the trends on TikTok can be a lot for a 45-year-old, even if she’s a celebrity. And recently, she posted a TikTok that got her in quite a bit of trouble with her followers.

She posted a video lip-syncing to Lana Del Rey’s song “Jealous Girl,” with the lyrics: “Baby, I’m a gangster too and it takes two to tango/You don’t wanna’ dance with me, dance with me.” She then looks into the camera and grabs her Bible. “When they don’t know the power of the Holy Spirit,” the caption read.

People were not happy. And after getting a ton of criticism for it, Candace came onto her Instagram stories to publicly apologize.

“I just came home and read a lot of messages that were not happy with my latest Instagram post that was a TikTok video,” she said. “And I usually don’t apologize for these things, but a lot of you thought it was weird, and I’m sorry. That was not my intention. I was using a very specific clip from TikTok and applying it to the power of the Holy Spirit, which is incredible.”

She also wanted to address her stare into the camera: “And so many of you thought that I was trying to be seductive, which clearly means I’m not a very good actress because I was trying to be strong, not sexy or seductive. So, I guess that didn’t work, but I deleted it.”

Candace had only seen a few TiKToks doing this trend, the first was on her 22-year-old daughter Natasha’s page—but her point just did not come across the way it was supposed to.

So what exactly was she trying to say?

“I was trying to do my own version of it with the Bible and talk about the Holy Spirit that basically nothing can trump the Holy Spirit and we only know that by reading the Bible,” Candace said. “Maybe I was just trying to be too cool or relevant in a Biblical way that didn’t work. Anyway, most of you didn’t like it, clearly, but there was a small percentage of you that appreciated what I did and understood my intention. But anyway, it’s gone. Now I know what you don’t like.”

Amazing how someone who got so much flack can respond in such a calm way. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight’s Lauren Zima, she elaborated even more on her response to the haters.

“Sometimes it hurts when people come to a conclusion,” Candace explained. “And I’m like, oh, I kind of feel like well maybe you haven’t followed me for a while or you don’t see the consistency of my life over the years, because I think that speaks volumes. You just have to scroll past it and get over it. Sometimes you vent to your friends, and then you’re like ‘okay, let’s move on.'”
