Young love. That’s what the relationship between Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie appeared to be when they headed out on a cross-country road trip, documenting their journey on social media. Even when police pulled them over after a call about a domestic dispute, the police seemed to believe the engaged couple was no real threat.

The video footage from the police body cam showed that Petito blamed herself, and Laundrie played the victim, but is that the real truth? We will never know 100% since Petito and Laundrie have both been confirmed dead.

When Laundrie returned home to his parents’ house in Florida without Petito, her parents filed a missing person’s report. While the manhunt for Petito ensued, Laundrie disappeared as well. Then, they were both missing.

Eventually, Petito’s body was found, and it was confirmed that she died by strangulation. Was Laundrie to blame? He was named a person of interest. Was that why he disappeared?

Some people thought his parents knew more than they were saying, but they claimed they didn’t know where their son was. As soon as police let the public back into a nearby reserve, his parents went in search of their son. They were successfully able to find his remains, but an autopsy came back inconclusive.

In order to find out what happened to their son, the remains were sent to be inspected by a forensic anthropologist. Now, the family’s attorney has confirmed Laundrie’s cause of death. He committed suicide.

In a statement, attorney Steve Bertolino explained, “Chris and Roberta Laundrie have been informed that the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head and the manner of death was suicide.” He added, “Chris and Roberta are still mourning the loss of their son and are hopeful that these findings bring closure to both families.”
