If you’re looking for a truly relaxing, peaceful getaway, look no further than Cascade Falls in Wisconsin.

While there are tons of beautiful waterfalls and places in the state of Wisconsin (and lots of hidden spots in the whole United States), Cascade Falls is one of the unique ones because it requires little to no effort to get there.

Located in the small downtown of Osceola, Cascade Falls is situated in the Osceola Creek, which runs through the Osceola Mill Pond and flows into the St. Croix River on the border of Wisconsin and Minnesota.

The cool thing about it is that you can access it just off of Cascade Street; it’s not at the end of a long wooded trail like most falls of this nature are, but right off of a downtown.

There’s a small set of stairs located right off the main road into Osceola that leads you down into the area where the base of the gorgeous 25-foot waterfall. There’s a trail that continues to the shores of the St. Croix, if you choose to head that way, but you don’t have to.

Typically, when you want to see a waterfall, you have to walk, hike, bike—something that requires energy—to see them. Then by the time you’re there, you’re too sweaty and tired to actually enjoy the view. Sometimes you just want to have a nice view without all the extra work, amirite?

This history of Cascade Falls

The falls were actually carved out by this river—the St. Croix River created a canyon, which developed into the Osceola Creek, which is located on the Wisconsin-Minnesota border.

Cascade Falls was first discovered in 1884 by a man named William Kent, and it was actually the reason for the official founding of the village of Osceola—people loved the waterfall so much that they decided to settle down there.

The falls once supported a mill, and a brewery, and some of the ruins of the old industry remain just above them. Additionally, there’s also a second small falls called Geiger Falls where an even smaller creek falls into the Osceola. Falls on falls on falls!

When you visit the waterfall, you can take a nice stroll downtown afterwards to visit the shops and historic buildings, some of which were built in the 1880s and are still standing to this day.

It’s truly beautiful whether you go day or night. If you visit at dusk, you’ll see the LED lights, which were put up on the falls in 2013, sparkle and reflect off the water with different colors.

Likewise, you can’t go wrong visiting in any season—summer and spring provide nice warm weather to relax; in the fall, the foliage surrounding the falls is to die for; and if you go in winter, you’ll see the water frozen mid-stream (which is super gorgeous).

So if you’re looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of life, and truly just want a peaceful setting without all the physical activity, this is your place to escape.
