Boy Refuses to Take Mask Off for School Picture Because His Mom Said to Keep It On No Matter What

Every year, when we send our kids off to school for school picture day, we never know how the pictures are going to turn out. Even though our kids are wearing outfits that we’ve picked out especially for picture day and their hair is perfectly groomed, we know that things could change by the time the photographer snaps the pictures.

Sometimes those school pictures come back with our kids looking a lot less perfect than they did when they left the house. Their hair might be messed up. Their clothes might be messed up. Even their smile might be a little odd looking.

In 2021, school pictures have their own challenge – face masks. If a child is wearing a face mask in a photo, obviously you can’t even see his or her smile.

Even at schools where children are required to wear face masks at school, photographers let the child remove the face mask for a quick smile to the camera. Everything was going normally for one photographer, until a little 1st grade boy sat down for his photo.

The first grader is named Mason, and his mom is Nicole Peoples. Nicole shared his school picture day story on Facebook. Along with her son’s school picture, she wrote the dialogue that transpired between her son and the photographer.

Photographer: Ok, take your mask off.
Mason: My mom said to keep it on all the time unless I’m eating and far away from everybody.
Photographer: I’m sure it’s ok to take it off for your pictures.
Mason: No, my mom seriously told me to make sure to keep it on.
Photographer: Are you sure you don’t want to take it off for 2 seconds?
Mason: No Thank you, I always listen to my mom!
Photographer: Ok, say cheese!
I’m so proud of him for sticking to his word but I should have been more clear about my rules on this day
In the comments, many people expressed how proud they were of Mason for standing up for himself and refusing to do something that his mom told him not to do. Nicole added an update to her post.
Mason and I are overjoyed and in awe of the outpouring of love that we have received over his picture day school picture. He has read so many of your comments with the biggest smile on his face! He is so happy to see so many people proud of him and saying he did such a good job! (He is so proud!) All of you have made my little one’s day!! He is such a good kind hearted, caring, loving, smart, and helpful little boy. Thank you for showing him that his honesty and integrity will make a big difference in this world.

Many of you have reached out to ask how you can send money for gifts, ice cream, or Mason’s college scholarship fund so I have created this GoFundMe me account to do just that.

Nicole’s GoFundMe only had a $7 goal, but people have already donated over $3000 to Mason. It just shows that it pays to listen to your mom.
