When a film is in production, it’s not often that the production unexpectedly stops. Usually, the cast and crew push through until all the scenes have been recorded, and the director and producers are happy with the results. Then the film moves on to post-production.

Sure, there are unusual circumstances when a film abruptly stops production unexpectedly. The film “Rust” comes to mind as a recent example with very unusual circumstances surrounding it. Most likely, that western staring Alec Baldwin will never be finished.

Another film that recently stopped production unexpectedly was “Being Mortal.” The Searchlight Features film stares Bill Murray, Aziz Ansari and Seth Rogan. Production was about half-way completed when it suddenly stopped. Why? Because of something Murray said to a woman on set.

Murray claims that he only meant to make a joke, but the woman he was talking to did not take it as a joke. Instead, she was offended, so offended that production of the film has stopped. It’s not clear when or if production will start again.

Murray told CNBC’s Becky Quick, “I did something I thought was funny and it wasn’t taken that way.” He claims it was a simple “difference of opinion.” However, he also claims that he has spent the week since production halted to think about the incident

The name of the person who was offended by person’s inappropriate comment has not been disclosed, but according to Murray, “As of now we are talking and we are trying to make peace with each other.” He added, “We are both professionals, we like each others’ work, we like each other I think and if we can’t really get along and trust each other there’s no point in going further working together or making the movie as well. It’s been quite an education for me.”

“Being Mortal” is set to be released in 2023, but that’s only if production starts again in the near future. As of now, it’s too early to say if this film will be finished in time for the original release date or if it will never get finished.

Murray insinuated that he has learned from his mistakes. He explained, “I think it’s a sad dog that can’t learn anymore. That’s a really sad puppy that can’t learn anymore. I don’t want to be that sad dog and I have no intention of it.” He added, “What would make me the happiest would be to put my boots on and for both of us to go back into work and be able to trust each other and work at the work that we’ve both spent a lot of time developing the skill of.”
