Alec Baldwin Is Being Sued by the Family of Halyna Hutchins’ Following ‘Rust’ Shooting
In October, Alec Baldwin was in New Mexico on the set of the movie “Rust.” He was preparing for a scene that involved a prop gun. He claims the cinematographer instructed him to point a gun towards the camera as they rehearsed for the next scene.
The cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, and the director, Joel Souza, were behind the camera. The gun fired a real bullet. Hutchins collapsed and later died. She was only 42. Souza was injured but survived.
Months have passed, and the police investigation in New Mexico is still underway. They have yet to rule out anyone, including Baldwin, in their investigation into what happened and who is responsible.
Baldwin claims he didn’t fire the gun. He also claims he didn’t know there was live ammunition in the gun. He does not feel that he is responsible for the tragic death.
Meanwhile, Hutchins’ family is grieving. She leaves behind her husband and young son. Baldwin met them both, and expressed sympathy for their loss, yet sympathy doesn’t bring back the ones you love.
Now, Hutchins’ family has hired lawyers and filed a lawsuit against Baldwin, but he’s not the only one the family holds responsible. The lawsuit also names the film’s assistant director, Dave Halls, and the set’s lead armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, in addition to several production companies who were involved in the making of the film.
The lawsuit claims that there were multiple lapses on set concerning gun safety, such as having live ammunition on set and not treating the gun as if it were loaded.
