‘Baby Shark’ Has Actually Made Its Way Into the Billboard Hot 100
The Baby Shark craze is far from over as the viral song has now made its way on to the Billboard Top 40 charts, peaking at number 32. Even if you don’t have kids in the house, we’re sure by now you’ve heard at least one version of this tune, be it the original, EDM, disco, or heavy metal remix.
If not, you are lucky. Pinkfong’s kiddie hit first came on the pop scene two years ago and has since racked up over 2 billion views on YouTube. Baby Shark has spawned a dance challenge, memes, and toys, which has pushed it into internet and streaming popularity.
According to Neilsen Music, the song scored a whopping 20.8 million streams for the week ending January 3. And according to YouTube, the video cracked the top 30 most-viewed in the history of the site. Wow!
There are basically two camps for this doo doo doo doo doo doo ditty, which include either devout fans or overwhelmingly annoyed haters. Yet, Baby Shark is showing no signs of slowing down. When kids like something, they really like it, and songs have the tendency to be programmed in our minds and ears forever.
Fortunately, you can order up so many editions of Baby Shark – like Halloween, Christmas, R&B, or a 2-hour medley – that this will keep feeding the phenomenon, which is exactly what the sharks want.
Thank your kids, grandkids, friends, co-workers, and other fans for making this happen. Now we wonder if it will win any awards for all the digital streams. Wouldn’t that be something?
Did you help push Baby Shark into its current streaming status? What about your acquaintances? How do you feel about the viral song and video?
