VIDEO: Twin Baby Girls’ Moves After Daddy Starts To Play The Guitar Made Us Smile

If you play parent to a baby or very young kid, chances are, they like music and dancing. And, if that baby or very young kid has access to the Internet, they probably love listening and boogying down to the song of the moment, “Baby Shark.”

Now, before you immediately ‘x’ out of this tab in your browser, take a deep breath–this article is NOT about the god-awful musical sensation that is “Baby Shark.” Instead, it’s about a pair of 19-month-old twins who have much better musical taste than their peers.
In a viral video of the two cuties dancing, the Internet finally gets a break from the aforementioned abomination and is rewarded by pure, simple adorableness. Here’s what the twins’ dad had to say about the now-famous clip:
This is a video of our identical twin girls still dancing to daddy’s guitar at 19 months. It is simply amazing how they create their own dance moves! The song I am playing is an original, which I composed just for them :)

Why babies love music–and dancing to it!

While we all might know from personal experience that babies love music, many of us aren’t familiar with the science behind these tiny people’s innate hobby. In an interview with National Geographic, Dr. Laurel Trainor, director of McMaster University’s Institute for Music and the Mind in Hamilton, Ontario, educates us on some of the most notable scientific theories and discoveries tied to musical awareness in babies.

As it turns out, most babies, even newborns, have a pretty keen sense of music as a pattern. “Infants can discriminate tempo,” Dr. Trainor explains. “More impressively, they can recognize the same piece of music played at different tempos, And infants are very good pitch processors. They notice when the pitch contour (up/down pattern) of a melody is changed. They also notice when a wrong note is played.”

The expert says that this innate ability to make distinctions in tone and tempo may be one of the reasons why they also feel compelled to dance when listening to music. She also explains that the style of music may have an effect on the type of dancing that they exhibit, as each culture’s music displays unique patterns and tones. More amazing, apparently, these young kiddos may be able to process these differences better than adults!

“…young infants are sensitive to a diversity of music,” Dr. Trainor says. “Young Western infants are able to detect changes in both simple and complex meters. But by 12 months, Western infants are only able to do so for the simple meters found in Western music.”

So, what does this all mean exactly? Well, we’re no scientists, but what we can glean from the research is that babies are very much connected with music naturally, and their dancing with it is just an expression of this built-in talent. It’s because of this that, the adorable 19-month-olds in the video we are showing you today, feel so compelled to dance to their father’s guitar-playing.

But, even if you don’t care about all of that scientific mumbo-jumbo, this sweet clip is still worth a watch. To witness these girls boogie down to their “living room rock star” dad, be sure to watch the video below. For these girls, dancing is serious business!
