Recently, singer and songwriter Avril Lavigne sat down with Kelly Clarkson on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” The two have a natural bond over singing and songwriting, but they bonded over more than just their careers.
During the interview, Clarkson pointed out that Lavigne is great at storytelling in her song lyrics. She mentioned that telling a story in a song is common in country music, and she asked Lavigne if country music has had an influence on her music.
Lavigne admitted that she loves country music and still listens to it. She agrees that it has had an influence on her own music and songwriting style. She also mentioned something else she loves that is often thought of as a little bit country – driving a truck. Lavigne told Clarkson that she drives a Ford Raptor.
Besides writing songs for herself, Lavigne also writes songs that become hits for other singers. For example, she wrote “Breakaway” which was recorded by Kelly Clarkson.
Clarkson explained that she was confused at first why Lavigne wouldn’t choose to record such an amazing song herself, but after hearing Lavigne’s album, it made a little bit more sense. Regardless, Clarkson thanked Lavigne for the song but admitted that she made one change to the lyrics because the original lyrics weren’t relatable for her.
