Amazing Cash Back Credit Card Perk You Didn’t Know About
You know how there are some price protection offers, like with Amazon or certain airlines, where if the price drops after you buy, you can take advantage of the lower price? What if we told you that you can take advantage of this kind of price protection on any purchases with a little help from your current credit card company?
If you have a CitiBank, Discover or Mastercard, you’re in luck. If you buy an item with your card and the price drops for that item within a certain period of time (usually 30-90 days), then your credit card company will refund the difference. Just save the receipt, your credit card statement showing the purchase and a dated ad or note from a manager on store stationary to prove that the price has dropped.
Here’s what we learned from Nerd Wallet:
Price matching is actually a pretty good deal. It means you can buy an appliance, laptop or other big-ticket item in early November, and then get a price match on Black Friday deals. You don’t have to wait in line for great prices. Now, that said, it’s not perfect. MasterCard and Discover put the onus on you, the consumer, to notice the price match and submit a claim, and while Citi can notify you if you’re eligible for a price drop, you have to register your purchase on the Price Rewind site beforehand.
There are, of course, some exclusions. Price protection typically excludes jewelry, cars and auto parts. But for other larger purchases, this is certainly a perk that you don’t want to overlook!
