Whether you’re interested in the late-night TV circuit or not, there’s a small chance you’ve seen clips of James Corden’s popular Carpool Karaoke bit. The host has been able to bag megastars like Stevie Wonder, Adele, and even Michelle Obama to do sing-alongs with him.

His musical adventures are fun to watch, but his recent turn with Adam Levine included an unexpected appearance. It all started out normal enough with the two casually cracking jokes when they hit the road.

The “two cool dads” jumped into Moves Like Jagger with the signature enthusiasm that the segment is known for. Now, if you’ve watched this before, then you’re familiar with how James mixes up interview questions in between song selections.

You also know that depending on the guest carpooler, things can get very animated. But James is usually always animated when he starts singing and dancing in the driver’s seat – all while driving.

Some of you know the feeling because you do it too. Ever caught the curious smile or what-the-heck look from the driver next to you while you’re belting out Single Ladies or Bohemian Rhapsody? Deep into your performance, you’ve probably been pretty oblivious to the strangers in their cars around you.

That’s usually the case with James Corden and friends when they get in the zone. So, the moment a police car’s sirens interrupted Adam Levine’s smooth She Will Be Loved rendition, these two started paying attention. And why wouldn’t they?

Watch as the car pulls up beside them, flashes the lights, and sounds the siren. Adam – cool, calm, and collected – gives a wave as James struggles to get the window rolled down. Both cars are still moving s-l-o-w-l-y, but the officer instructs them to pull over.

Understandably, people get antsy when a cop pulls them over. If you’ve ever caught an episode of the show, you know James is nearly always in a jolly good mood. Much like his internal sneeze at the royal wedding, this threw him off a bit.

You can’t tell, but James is nervous. This is the first time in the history of Carpool Karaoke that a police stop occurs. What’s happening and why? Click through the video to find out and to see one of Adam’s other talents.

Luckily, James gets off with a warning but he was still frazzled, telling Levine, “I don’t know what quite happened there, I completely panicked. I panicked in my absolute core.”

Fans of Levine’s and Maroon 5 will appreciate the medley of hits these cool dads churn out, and you’ll get a good laugh during a moment in this vid when Adam is begging for the policeman to return.

And in case anyone is wondering, Corden made it clear that their police encounter was not staged. He sent out a tweet sharing that is was all real, and he knew something like this would happen at some point.

What do you think of the cop’s reason for pulling them over? Were you worried for them? What’s your favorite part of this video?
