Annie Wersching was an actress best known for her role as Renee Walker on the series “24” and as the voice of Tess on the video game “Last of Us.” She was also a wife and a mother with three boys. Her life was full. Now it is over.

Wersching’s publicist told The Associated Press that she died after a long battle with cancer. She was diagnosed in 2020. She died on January 29, 2023.  The type of cancer was not mentioned. She was only 45 years old.

Wersching is survived by her husband, actor Stephen Full, and her three sons, Freddie, age 12, Ozzie, age 9, and Archie, age 4. A GoFundMe has been set up “so Steve can have time to grieve without the pressure of needing to work. So he can be daddy…It’s to give them time to navigate life as a family of four without the burden of paying medical bills or funeral expenses. It’s so they can continue to live life in a way that they know would make Annie proud.” In just one day, the fundraiser has already raised over $150,000.

Full released a statement about his wife’s death explaining, “There is a cavernous hole in the soul of this family today. But she left us the tools to fill it. She found wonder in the simplest moment. She didn’t require music to dance. She taught us not to wait for adventure to find you. ‘Go find it. It’s everywhere.’ And find it we shall.” He added, “As I drove our boys, the true loves of her life, down the winding driveway and street, she would yell BYE! until we were out of earshot and into the world. I can still hear it ringing. Bye my Buddie. ‘I love you little family…’”

The creator of the video game “The Last of Us,” Neil Drummond, posted a tribute to Wersching on Twitter. He wrote, “We just lost a beautiful artist and human being. My heart is shattered. Thoughts are with her loved ones.”

Jon Casser, the director and producer on the series “24,” also commented on Wersching’s death. He said, “My heart is broken in more pieces than I can count. Annie came into my world with an open heart and a contagious smile. Brandishing such talent, she took my breath away. Annie became more than a workmate, she became a real friend to me, my family and every cast and crew member that worked with her. She’ll be truly missed by them and the fans she always found time to interact with. Annie you’ll be missed, you left your mark, and we’re all the better for it.”
