7 Inside Secrets About Aldi

If you’re lucky enough to have an Aldi Supermarket near you, you know that it’s one of the greatest grocery stores, especially for bargains. Aldi offers a range of items—from food, drinks, household items and more—at super low discount prices. So it’s a pretty addicting store.

But what else is there to know about this chain, besides how easily it is to shop on a budget there? Lots! Here are 7 inside secrets about Aldi:

  1. There are lots more coming.

Fear not if you don’t have an Aldi near you right now. Currently, there are only around 10,000 Aldi stores across 20 countries, with about 1,750 across 35 states in America alone. However, Aldi is working on a major expansion to include 2,500 stores in the United States by the year 2022!

  2. The higher-ups work on the floor.

You’d think all the corporate executives who work for a huge brand just sit at their desks and work behind the scenes. But actually, there’s a rule that every single person who works there — including managers, directors, and VPs — have to spend a full week doing tedious tasks like unloading trucks with products, stocking the shelves, assisting customers— anything a regular associate does on the floor. This way, they can fully understand the experience. Kind of cool, huh?

  3. They’re competitive—in the best way.

Aldi goes to great lengths to make sure they’re stacking up to the competition. Each year, Aldi employees host a blind taste test of their food items against a product from their competition. The person trying the food doesn’t know whether it came from Aldi or somewhere else—so if they choose the other brand, they try to come up with ways to make it better. Talk about dedication!

  4. They’re truly low priced, top quality . . .

While we already know that Aldi sells their products at a much lower price point than other stores, it should be said that they don’t sacrifice the quality of the products. In fact, they actively seek out expensive, trendy items and work to make a nearly identical product for a fraction of the cost. For example, they made an almost replica of a $65 candle that Nordstrom sells. Aldi’s candle of comparable quality and scent only costs $6.99.

  5. . . . even for their food.

Usually the cheaper the food, the more synthetic chemicals are in it. But Aldi has developed a track record of removing certified synthetic colors, partially hydrogenated oils, and added monosodium glutamate (MSG) from their private label goods. In fact, they even have their own healthy brands: a gluten-free line called liveGfree and SimplyNature, which bans over 120 gross ingredients.

  6. They just started selling two inexpensive (but delicious) drinks . . .

And they ‘re a new rosé and a pre-mixed mimosa (made with freshly squeezed orange juice). The prices? $6.99 and $8.99 respectfully. And they both taste amazing. They’re only available through the summer, so stock up while you can!

  7. . . . and a fun holiday surprise to look out for.

Aldi’s wine Advent calendar nearly went viral around the holidays. The calendar is exactly what it sounds like: opening a mini bottle of wine throughout every day of December as a lead-up to Christmas. However, the sad news was that it was only available in the UK. Well, this year you might see them in stores in the United States. Keep an eye out to get your hands on this one-of-a-kind product!
