1. Calleja de las Flores, Cordoba

   The name of this street in the Spanish city of Cordoba translates to “The Street of the Flowers,” with good reason. Traditionally, the high walls of this narrow street are lined with bright blossoms. Set against the white walls of the buildings along the street, the flowers look even more captivating.

2. Burano, Italy

   Technically, this one’s not even a street. Burano, like its more famous neighbor, Venice, is actually built on a series of small islands. Residents and visitors get around in boats, via a series of canals.

   Burano’s waterways are lined with stunning buildings painted in bright pastel colors. Most of the homes date back centuries. So sit back, relax, and enjoy a romantic gondola ride!

3. Tetsugaku no michi, Kyoto

   If Burano leaves you wanting to explore more canals, head across the globe to the city of Kyoto, Japan. The famous canal Tetsugaku no michi (“The Philosopher’s Path”) is 1.2 miles long, and lined with the beautiful cherry trees that have become a symbol of Japan.

4. Nevsky Prospect, St. Petersburg

   St. Petersburg, Russia is known as the “Venice of the North” because it is also built on a series of islands linked by canals. All that water doesn’t prevent St. Petersburg from having its share of beautiful streets, however. And the most famous of them all is Nevsky Prospect. The nearly 3-mile street contains the best of St. Pete’s nightlife and shopping, including the Great Gostiny Dvor, one of the oldest malls in the world.

5. Chefchaouen, Morocco

   This entire town is known for its stunning streets. Many of them in centuries-old Chefchaouen are painted a gorgeous blue color, all over the building walls and steps. There are differing stories about why they’re painted blue. According to one popular theory, the city’s Jewish population chose the color to represent heaven and God’s power.

6. Ballymoney, Northern Ireland

   If this one seems familiar….there might be a good reason. Bregagh Road in Ballymoney was built in the eighteenth century, and designed to have beautiful trees arch gracefully over it. With such an elegant look, it’s a popular tourist attraction. Recently, however, it might have gotten even more attention for being the “tree tunnel” featured in HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones.

7. Agueda, Portugal

   This city became famous for the “Umbrella Sky Project” that began in the summer of 2011. Artists covered some of the city’s streets in colorful umbrellas arranged in beautiful patterns. The art installation was so popular that they’ve brought it back every summer since. The umbrellas aren’t just pretty, either: their shade gives some much-needed relief from Portugal’s summer heat!
