While Netflix is a great way to rent movies from the comfort of your own home, new price increases may be turning some customers off. If you’re interested in some alternatives that could cost you less but still give you what you’re looking for in terms of movie/TV show rentals, take a look at some ideas from SavvySugar:

  1. Hulu Plus: this service offers over 33,000 episodes from current and classic shows in high def for view on your computer, smart phone, tablet or gaming console for about $8 a month. You’ll also find hundred of movies and documentaries (though they may be less mainstream and more independent, lesser-known titles).
  2. Blockbuster by Mail: for $12, you can rent one disc at a time from Blockbuster by mail with no due dates or late fees. Also:

The company claims it provides new releases 28 days before Netflix and Redbox, and you can send the movie back by mail or switch it out for another rental at a Blockbuster location. Blockbuster On-Demand has a limited amount of instant play movies for free. The majority cost $3 and up per movie, which can really add up.

  3. Redbox: reserve movies or games you want to rent from Redbox and then pick them up at the selected Redbox kiosk for only $1 a day per movie. This could be a great option if you rent less than 8 movies a month. Just don’t forget that movies are due by 9pm the next day, so avoid paying an extra dollar by staying on top of the return deadline!
