Singer Eric Carmen was the frontman for the band The Raspberries before launching a solo career. He’s best known for hit songs like “All By Myself,” “Hungry Eyes” and “Make Me Lose Control.”

In a post on his website, Eric’s wife, Amy Carmen, announced the sad news of her husband’s death. She wrote, “It is with tremendous sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Eric Carmen.” He was 74 years old.

While she did not mention a specific cause of death or a specific date for his death, Amy did share, “Our sweet, loving and talented Eric passed away in his sleep, over the weekend.”

Amy continued the post by letting fans know that Eric found “great joy” in knowing “his music touched so many and will be his lasting legacy.” She also requested “privacy as we mourn our enormous loss.”

The New York Post reports that four of Eric’s songs made it onto the Billboard Hot 100. The first hit was “Go All the Way” which he performed as a member of The Raspberries. In 1972, that song reached number 5 despite it’s suggestive lyrics and being banned by the BBC.

The next big hits came during his solo career. In the 1970s, “All By Myself” made it to number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Then in the 1980s, he had two more hits. “Hungry Eyes” reached number 4 in 1987, and “Make Me Lose Control” hit the top 5 in 1988.

Even after going solo, Eric reunited with The Raspberries a couple times. CNN reports that he performed on stage with the band at Cleveland’s House of Blues in 2004. The following year, the band hit the road on a mini tour. The last time The Raspberries performed together was in 2007 at Cleveland’s KeyBank State Theatre.

Upon learning the news of Eric’s death, Paul Stanley from the band Kiss wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Awful News. Eric Carmen has died. Although known to many for writing radio hits like “All By Myself” and others, Eric was a true rocker at heart. His voice had elements of McCartney and Steve Marriott. The Raspberries did shows with us. A killer band live & I loved their records.”

According to The Independent, Eric was married three times. Amy was his third wife, and they got married eight years ago. He is survived by Amy and two adult children from his second marriage.
