15 Cheap and Healthy Foods for Your Diet

Are you looking to drop a few pounds or just be more conscious about your diet in the New Year? There are definitely certain foods that you need in your arsenal. Billeater has compiled a list of 15 cheap foods that meet these requirements:

  • They’re packed with vitamins and minerals
  • They’re extremely versatile
  • They’re low in calories and fat
  • The have no trans fat
  • They may have fiber (and are therefore filling)

Here are five of the foods on the list:

  1. Eggs: these protein powerhouses run for about a dollar a dozen and you can sneak them into just about any meal (pasta, soups, salads, etc).
  2. Frozen Vegetables: these are cheaper than fresh produce and you won’t waste money on veggies that rot. Flash-freeze these to preserve vitamins.
  3. Peanut Butter: you can add this cheap yet wealthy source of protein to pretzels, crackers, apples, sandwiches and many other snacks.
  4. Carrots: ditch the prepackaged “baby carrots” and peel your own to snack on.
  5. Tuna: you can get cans for less than a dollar and use them to get your fill of protein on salads, sandwiches and pasta.
