Watch This 1-Year-Old Get Ready All By Herself!
Anyone who has toddlers knows that trying to persuade them to get dressed and ready on their own can be an uphill battle. Getting a little one to simply sit still to put on their shoes can be a tiring confrontation in and of itself. So, you’d be surprised to know that there is one dynamic 1-year-old out there who doesn’t just get ready solo because she has to— she clearly loves it!
Little Millie is only 22-months-old, but she’s already an independent woman! The girl’s got a cute, sassy hairstyle, trendy leggings, and a faithful stuffed bunny by her side. What gal needs anything else?
And though she’s still in the midst of those heady toddler years, we think it’s safe to say that her “terrible twos” won’t involve throwing any tantrums over getting dressed to go out. You see, Millie is truly an aficionado when it comes to the art of putting on clothes, and we have the clip to prove it!
This hilarious viral video starts off with the young tyke seated on her stairs, focusing hard while shoving her feet into her teeny, tiny shoes.
The kid’s got some pretty advanced dexterity, especially considering her super young age. She manages to get her heels into those cute tennis shoes after just a couple of attempts! Millie even remembers to Velcro them on before getting up to move on to the rest of her special dressing ritual.
What makes this sight so unique is that the girl has truly hit this milestone at a very young age. In an interview with Parents, pediatrician Dr. Kenneth Polin, M.D. says that kids usually don’t start getting dressed until at least 2 ½ to 3 years-old—and that’s just the basics.
He says that “around this time she will put on simple things, like T-shirts and dresses, without any complicated buttons or zippers.” Well, Millie has already mastered shoes and jackets—she certainly is ahead of the curve!
One of the hashtags associated with this increasingly popular video is ‘Montessori,’ a special method of schooling that little Mille must follow. The blog The Montessori Child at Home gives details on how to empower a child to get ready by themselves. The blog advises parents to:
Make sure he can get in and out of his clothes by himself without any real help from an adult. For example, pull-on pants with no buttons or zippers and Velcro shoes. If your child can’t yet tie up his shoes, don’t send him to school in lace ups.
Remember, your child is striving for independence and we can foster that by being aware of (and adjusting for) his capabilities and developing skills.
Well, the technique certainly works well for Millie! It’s incredible to think that this little girl isn’t even 2-years-old yet—she clearly has quite the independent spirit. Good for her!
You’ve got to watch this impressive youngster for yourself. Click on PMCCardle’s video below to see the way that she puts on her jacket. It isn’t just adorable, it’s stirring! In fact, I think I may just try it myself tomorrow morning.
