Hoodies: when it comes to loungewear, they pretty much take the cake—they’re just THAT comfy! But while we could sing the praises of these shirts all day, we have always been stumped when it comes to storing them. They seem too casual to hang on hangers, but they sure do take up a heck of a lot of space in crowded drawers.
That’s why we are sharing a video with you today that features the very best hoodie-folding hack in the universe! Not only will this allow you to reclaim some much-needed space, it will also ensure that no other pieces of clothing get wrapped up in the web of that baggy material. (All of you hoodie addicts know what I’m talking about!)
Here’s how to get started:
- Don’t even think about beginning until you’ve selected a flat surface. Whether it’s a proper folding table or just the floor, an even space will make all the difference. Once you’ve found one, lay your hoodie, front side-down and smooth the fabric with the palms of your hands.
- Next, fold each sleeve in towards the center so that they make a crisscross formation. If you end up with extra fabric on the sides, make small creases until the sweatshirt resembles a rectangle.
- Once you have your rectangle, fold each side into the middle. You should end up with a “hot dog fold”. Move your hands to the bottom of the hoodie and lift the bottom towards the hood, and smooth.
- Flip your hoodie front-side up, then away from you, so that the hood’s opening is facing the ceiling. Once complete, carefully shove the excess fabric into the hood, making sure that you are maintaining the folds and shape. Pull the strings tight, and you’re good to go!
Sounds easy enough, right? Not so fast…
While we promise this hack shouldn’t take more than 30 seconds once you get it down, the process is easier to master once you’ve watched it a couple of times. Trust us, your closet deserves it!
And while we are on the subject of closets, we’d like to take a minute to discuss where your prized hoodies should go. We’ve already established that it’s time to get those clothing hangers back, so that leaves us with a couple of options.
The “hoodie pod” that this folding method leaves you with makes for hassle-free stacking, so a wardrobe drawer should work well, but if you are really low on space, consider investing in a hanging organizer. They’re technically made for storing shoes, but we find that they work just as well for shirts, socks, and even hoodies!
