What You Need to Know About the Eggo Waffles Recall

If waffles are part of your breakfast routine, then you need to listen up! According to CNN, about 10,000 cases of Eggo Nutri-Grain Whole Wheat Waffles have been voluntarily recalled by the company. Unfortunately, there is reason to believe that the waffles in these 10,000 cases could be contaminated with listeria. Listeria can create a potentially fatal infection in anyone who comes into contact with it.

 What is listeria?

According to the Centers for Disease Control, listeria is “a serious infection usually caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes. The disease primarily affects older adults, pregnant women, newborns, and adults with weakened immune systems.” People who contract listeria usually endure symptoms like diarrhea, fatigue, and aches. Though most people do recover from this infection, it can sometimes be deadly.

How do I know if I purchased waffles from one of the infected 10,000 cases?

Kellogg’s wants consumers to check both the count of the pack as well as the “Best if used by” dates. The affected packages came in 10-count packs with “Best if used by” dates of November 21, 2017 and November 22, 2017.
