Baked Apple Fries with Maple Cream Sauce

Feeling a little pumpkin-ed out but still want to make a delightful and unexpected autumn sweet treat? Why not try your hand at these quick and easy baked apple fries? You could fry these up if you want but they baked up nice and crisp in about 15 minutes, without making the entire house smell like hot oil. Not only is baked healthier than fried, but the delicate flavors of the apple really shine through this way. This is a fun party dish and a great way to get kids excited about fruit as a dessert. Make people think you’ve really gone the extra mile by whipping up some maple sour cream dipping sauce.

For the apple fries:

2 large apples, peeled and cut into fry wedges (I used gala):

5 TBL butter, softened and at room temp

½ cup sugar

2 tsp ground cinnamon

For the maple sour cream:

2 TBL softened cream cheese

2 TBL maple syrup

½ cup sour cream

cinnamon to top (optional)

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F. Line two baking trays with parchment paper.
  2. Lay the apple wedges out flat on the baking trays, so that they are not overlapping.
  3. Brush the apple wedges with the softened butter.

  4. Mix together the sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle the mix over the apples.
  5. Bake for 15 minutes or until the apples are cooked and the edges have begun to brown.

To make the dip:

  1. While the apples are baking whisk the maple syrup into the soft cream cheese. Beat well to make sure there are no lumps of cream cheese.
  2. Fold the maple cream cheese into the sour cream. Top with cinnamon and serve with apple fries.
