You Can See ‘The Wizard of Oz’ in Theaters Again In Honor of Judy Garland’s 100th Birthday

Judy Garland was born on June 10, 1922. One of her most notable roles as an actress was when she played a young Kansas girl named Dorothy in the classic Warner Bros. movie “The Wizard of Oz,” which was released in 1939. In the classic movie, Dorothy leaves Kansas during a tornado and ends up in a magical world where she meets unlikely friends and has to find her way back home.

Garland passed away due to a drug overdose in 1969 at the age of 47, but if she were still alive today, she would be about to celebrate her 100th birthday. In honor of her birthday, Fathom Events has rereleased “The Wizard of Oz” in theaters for a special celebratory screening of the film.

In case you’ve somehow gone through life without ever seeing this classic film, here’s a summary of what it’s about. According to Fathom Events, “In this classic musical fantasy, Judy Garland stars as Dorothy Gale, a young Kansas farm girl who dreams of a land “somewhere over the rainbow.” Dorothy’s dream comes true when she, her dog Toto, and her family’s house are transported by a tornado to a bright and magical world unlike anything she has seen before. Unfortunately, she makes a mortal enemy of a wicked witch when the house falls on the hag’s sister. Now, befriended by a scarecrow without a brain, a tin man with no heart and a cowardly lion–and protected by a pair of enchanted ruby slippers–Dorothy sets off along a yellow brick road for the Emerald City to beseech the all-powerful Wizard of Oz for his help to return home.”

The birthday celebration screenings started yesterday, June 5th, but there is still time to see “The Wizard of Oz” on the big screen. There are additional screenings today, June 6th. To find the screening closest to you, all you have to do is enter your city or zip code here.

Once you find a theater near you that’s participating in this special event, go ahead and buy your tickets so you don’t miss out on this very limited time opportunity to see a classic film on the big screen.
