Disney Releases Winnie-the-Pooh Animated Clip Commemorating Royal Baby Archie’s Birth
If you haven’t heard by now, a new little royal nugget is in town. Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor made his big debut to the world on Born on May 6, 2019, with his parents, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry making their first media appearance with the bub just two days later.
In addition to the entire world rejoicing in the birth of The Duke and Duchess of Suxssex’s baby, the cartoon bear Winnie-the-Pooh has also joined along in the celebrations.
Pooh has been featured in an adorable 25-second animated clip where he walks from his home in the Hundred Acre Wood to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s home at Windsor Castle to meet their new royal cutie.
In the clip, he’s holding a blue book with a picture of a crown on it as he makes the long trek. When he arrives at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s hoe, Meghan sits down next to Archie’s crib with Prince Harry nearby to read the story to Pooh.
Disney posted the sweet video after Archie’s birth along with the caption, “The beginning of a grand adventure… Congratulations from Disney to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and The Royal Family on the arrival of Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor!”
The watercolor sketches were drawn by hand by Disney’s Senior Principal Artist, Kim Raymond as a gift from the company to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
“The heart-warming story is a touching gift from Disney to the proud new parents, depicting the world’s favorite bear delivering a special hum to their new son,” Raymond said.
So why Winnie? You see, Winnie-the-Pooh has had long-term ties to the royal family, ever since his creator A.A. Milne dreamed him up 93 years ago. It was in 1926 when Milne dedicated his book, “Teddy Bear and the Other Songs from When We Were Very Young,” to then-Princess Elizabeth, in commemoration of her birth.
Additionally, in 2016, Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday and Disney’s 90th anniversary of the Winnie-the-Pooh cartoon fell around the same time, so Disney dedicated a new book to the queen that featured Pooh traveling to London to deliver a birthday poem to her
Prince George, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s first son, was also featured in the same book. And since their second son, Prince Louis, was born, Prince Harry bought him a first edition A.A. Milne Winnie-the-Pooh book for his christening present in 2018.
Meghan also once named a Winnie the Pooh story as a favorite book of hers. It just makes the animated clip that much more special!
Like Pooh, Meghan says that Archie, “has the sweetest temperament.”
“It’s pretty amazing, and I have the two best guys in the world, so I’m really happy,” she said. “He’s been the dream.”
