Untraditional Couple Seals Engagement With a Really Strange Ring

Most girls dream about their wedding day ever since they were a little girl—whether it’s small details like how her dress will twirl as she has her first dance with her partner, or how the floral centerpieces will dazzle each table.

But most of all, I think it’s safe to say most girls dream about what her engagement ring will look like.

Most people probably imagine some type of diamond, whether it’s round, princess cut, halo, whatever. Some opt for pearls or birthstones. Heck, we’ve even heard of tattoos in place of engagement rings.

But we’ve never heard of or seen a ring quite  like Carlee Unger’s.

Now newlyweds, Carlee and Lucas have always been described as an eccentric couple, so it was only suiting that when they got engaged, Lucas would propose with a really quirky ring. And he definitely nailed it.

The band of the ring is silver with intricate semi heart-shaped designs throughout. And then, smack dab in the center is one of Lucas’ wisdom teeth. Yes, his actual tooth is front and center, where a diamond usually goes.

Even the night Lucas chose to propose on was unconventional. Not Christmas or Valentine’s Day, when more traditional engagements skyrocket—but on Halloween. He proposed in front of many of the two’s family and friends at a Halloween party.

The two came up with the idea and design for the ring together. So while the actual proposal was a surprise, Carlee was in from the start on the unconventional wisdom tooth accessory.

“The tooth symbolizes the weird, quirky, odd couple we are,” she said. “Every tooth is different, and the tooth also shows what my husband’s willing to go through for me. Lucas literally grew this and went through pain when he got it removed, and all that went into my wedding ring.”

I mean when you put it like that, we can kind of understand. When you think about it, being married is kind of like having someone be a part of you, right? So they certainly have that part down pat.

When she posted about her engagement on Facebook, she wrote: “So incredibly excited to marry…the man who knows that his wisdom tooth means more to me than a diamond.”

The store that created the ring is called George Boshaura of Bridwell Diamonds and Jewelry in downtown Los Angeles.

The designer said he’s had some weird requests, but nothing quite this unusual before. “This was the first time in my 30-year career that I made a wedding ring out of a wisdom tooth,” Boshaura said. “Designing it was very exciting.”

The weirdness doesn’t stop at just her ring. Lucas’ ring isn’t quite traditional either. His is made of platinum with an engraved picture of a tooth (of course) on it, and the words “Do you really want to hold my dirty hand.”

The lyrics come from the song “Dirty Hands,” by Black Lips, which played at a music festival in Vancouver where the two met for the first time. At least there’s some significance there!
