Tyler Perry Foots Grocery Bills for Seniors and High-Risk Shoppers at Over 70 Stores

In the middle of the coronavirus pandemic, it’s easy to see all the bad happening. But we can’t forget that there is good among it all.

Actor Tyler Perry recently performed a heck of an act of kindness. In his hometown of New Orleans, Louisiana, he decided to pay for a number of grocery bills for seniors and other high-risk shoppers.

Coronavirus seems to affect the elderly the most, so Perry wanted to do something for them—especially those putting themselves at risk shopping at grocery stores, who might not have had any other way to get food.

Luckily, many supermarkets are offering revised hours just for seniors and high-risk shoppers to utilize.

When the seniors arrived at the various Winn-Dixie locations that Perry had arranged in advance to foot peoples’ bills, they got the surprise of their life. They all received slips of paper with the words “Random Act of Kindness” on them, followed by the words “Please check out by 8 a.m.”

When they arrived at the register, they were told that their grocery bill was covered.

As if that wasn’t enough, Perry also did the same thing at several Kroger stores in Atlanta. And as if that wasn’t enough, he also decided to tip a whopping $21,000 for workers at an Atlanta restaurant while picking up takeout (we can nearly guarantee that was well over the standard 20%).

While most of us can’t afford to pay for all of someone’s groceries, or leave a tip of thousands, Perry still wants to encourage people that any small act of kindness will do. Whether it’s buying someone a small cup of coffee or even just leaving a sweet note on someone’s car, you can make someone’s day with very little effort—especially in these trying times.

What do you think of Tyler Perry’s random act of kindness? What would you have done if you discovered your groceries were all paid for at checkout?
