Tabitha From “Bewitched” Is Now a Mom of 6

Ah, classic television—they just don’t make shows like they used to, huh? Back in the day, we used to love curling up on the couch for some Happy Days and I Love Lucy reruns, but we have to admit that our absolute favorite classic show is none other than Bewitched. There’s just something so kick-butt about that Samantha Stephens!

And, though we could pretty much recite lines from most seasons of the show, we started getting really obsessed around the time that little Tabitha Stephens came in the picture. The character, played by Erin Murphy, made her first appearance on the show in 1966, just two years after the series’ premiere episode.

The character of Tabitha was originally introduced in order to give the show’s leads, Samantha and Darrin, a daughter. When first cast, Erin Murphy, along with her fraternal twin sister, Diane, were offered the job. Both played Tabitha for their first season, but as time went on, the sisters began looking less and less alike. This gave Erin the opportunity to play the role full time.

In an interview with Fox News, Murphy gives fans a picture of what it was like to grow up on the set of Bewitched with TV mom Elizabeth Montgomery.

“[Elizabeth Montgomery] really was like a mom to me. I definitely think of her more like a family member than a co-worker. And I think it’s because when I was on set, it was just me,” Murphy recalls.

“My parents weren’t standing there next to me [while I was working]. So I looked up to her as family, as a parent almost. We were friends outside of the set and she had three children around my age, so we grew up together. So it was a close relationship for sure.”

Ok, is it just us or do you love it when costars get along in real life, too? It’s stories like these that make the show seem even more magical!

What Erin Murphy has been up to since Bewitched’s finale

After the classic show ended in 1972, Murphy pretty much stayed out of the spotlight until she reached adulthood.

These days, the mom of six—yes, six!—mostly lives the life of a suburban housewife. While she’s definitely experiencing a, no doubt, busy time on the domestic front, that doesn’t mean that she hasn’t found time to work on her career. In the past 20 years, she has worked as an actress and host on a handful of shows.

Most recently, she took part in a web series called Life Interrupted that featured other child stars from the golden age of television, including Alison Arngrim of Little House on the Prairie and Dawn Wells of Gilligan’s Island.

Doesn’t sound like such a bad life, if you ask us. It’s great to hear that the now 53-year-old has such fond memories of her TV days. How special!

We’d love to hear your thoughts on this Tabitha Stephens update! Were you surprised to see what the former child star looks like today? Did you experience any fame in your younger years? If so, how did it affect your life?
