Neighbors Organize a Socially Distant Dinosaur Parade to Lift Spirits

In light of the current coronavirus outbreak, nearly the entire world has been put on hold. Concerts have been postponed until further notice, weddings have been canceled, and you can forget about those tickets you have to the NBA.

With how fast the virus can spread, the CDC has recommended that people stay within around 6 feet from each other and limit social events to 10 people or less until things are more under control. Thus, all of the restrictions.

It might feel a bit glum to be sitting at home with nowhere to go, doesn’t it? Even if you get outside for some fresh air and a walk, the lack of gatherings can feel downright sad for some.

Residents of a neighborhood in Milwaukee were really feeling that sullen vibe. But instead of sulking in their homes, they put their heads together (figuratively, not literally, of course!), and came up with a brilliant solution to organizing an event appropriate for a world of social distancing.

They decided on a parade. And while a traditional parade would mean lots of people too close together, this parade was different. They deemed it a “social distance dinosaur parade.”

The residents decided to dress up in hilarious inflatable dinosaur costumes and parade around the neighborhood to make everyone smile—and even offer a little hope in these dark times.

The people in dinosaur costumes parades around the neighborhoods with their dinosaur heads and bodies bopping away. One dino even carried a ruler in his hand (claw?) to make sure all participants stayed the required six feet apart to stay safe. Okay, so the dinosaurs probably weren’t all more than six feet from each other, but any germs were safely tucked away inside the costumes!

People in the neighborhood couldn’t help but get out of their house to take photos and cheer for the dinosaurs walking down the streets. It truly gave people a chance to get out of their homes for a little fun break—a break from doing nothing!

This neighborhood wasn’t the only one to think of holding a coronavirus-appropriate parade. A family in Ireland also created a makeshift parade in their backyard for their kids, which entailed pulling toy cars, trucks and tractors on a piece of string.

In some of the vehicles sat stuffed animals holding toilet paper or hand sanitizer. Just another way to get those around us to giggle in light of all the canceled events (this one was the perfect way to mourn the canceled St. Patrick’s Day parade.

What types of activities have you been doing to keep yourself sane during quarantine? Have you seen any coronavirus parades like these in your area?
