When house hunting for the perfect home, most of us prioritize having a lot of space. We all want to have a place where we can fit all of our necessities, and even some of our non-necessities, and still have room to comfortably move about.

However, in larger, more expensive areas, such as Boston, Massachusetts, spacious homes are hard to come by. Especially in the current market, prices for even tiny houses are sky high, let alone the prices on a roomy abode.

One house on the market gained a lot of attention for how “skinny” it is. In fact, the home was built purposefully in the 1800s out of spite, and is now selling for $1.2 million on Zillow. The home stands just 10 feet wide at a bit over 1,000 square feet, and was deemed the city’s “skinniest home” by the 2005 Boston Globe article called the city’s skinniest home.

The house, located on Hull Street in the North End, was built by a war solider in 1862 . After he came home from the war, he found that his brother took up their shared property with all of his stuff. He built the home to purposely block the sunlight between two sections of his brother’s larger home.

Though it’s a small, oddly shaped home, buyers are very attracted to how unique it is. Plus, the two-bedroom, one-bathroom home has since been renovated to come up to modern day standards and has some pretty awesome features.

The first floor contains a dining room, a living space, and a walk-out to a small balcony that overlooks its own private gardens. Walk upstairs and you’ll find a bathroom, laundry room and sitting area. Walk once again upstairs and you’ll find another sitting area.

The home contains unique features like blue tile in the bathroom and exposed brick details. The other half of the floor is used as a guest bedroom and the primary suite takes up the whole fourth floor and has access to a private rooftop, which has a lovely view of the city.

Last but not least, the private garden makes it feel like you’re in a quintessential small cottage, let alone a huge city.
