Hero Mom Gives Birth to All 6 of Her Sextuplets — 3 Sets Of Twins — In Just 9 Minutes

Giving birth one time is hard. Giving birth six times is harder. Giving birth six times…in nine minutes? We don’t even know how to categorize that other than, “Possibly the most difficult and painful activity of all time.”

We have no idea how new mom Thelma Chiaka did it, but the Nigerian woman indeed pushed out her sextuplets (yes, that’s six babies—count ‘em, six!) between the hours of 4:50 a.m. and 4:59 a.m. at the Woman’s Hospital of Texas in Houston.

The two pairs of twin boys and one pair of twin boys were itty bitty, weighing in anywhere between 1 pound 12 ounces and 2 pounds and 14 ounces. All the little ones were in a stable condition when they got to the advanced neonatal intensive care unit and continue to be doing well.

Having sextuplets makes Thelma one in 4.7 billion, so the fact that she delivered them in under 10 minutes is even more astonishing. And we’re not the only ones who think so—after the hospital shared the news on social media, people from all over couldn’t believe that this mom was able to get all babies out as quickly as she did.

“Woooooow this is miraculous, mama you’re really blessed. congratulations be strong happy always,” one person wrote.

“I could not imagine giving birth to 6 babies but at least you can say you’re done now and get the baby stages all over at one time! Congrats momma I bet they’re all gorgeous,” someone else posted.

Getting pregnant with multiples occurs when more than one egg cell is released from the ovary and gets fertilized by the sperm, or when one fertilized egg splits into two. While many people think having multiples means the mother automatically used some kind of fertility treatment, this isn’t always the case.

“The majority of quintuplet and higher births are not the result of procedures like in-vitro fertilization (IVF) or other assisted reproductive technology (ART), but rather the use of fertility medications: a much lower cost/risk treatment option,” stated Raising Multiples, an organization dedicated to Mothers of Supertwins communities.

With such a unique birth story, Thelma decided to go with a pretty unique name sequence. She chose Zina and Zuriel for her daughters, however, her boys’ names have yet to be released. We’re thinking she might go with something that starts with a Z!

Thelma might have won the award for fastest birth of six babies, and while being a mom of sextuplets is very rare, there have actually been moms to birth even more!

To hear more about Thelma’s impressive birth story—as well as stories of other parents who have been in similar situations (including “Octomom,” who became world famous when she gave birth to eight babies in 2009 at the age of 33.) —check out the video below.

We have so many questions, but the main one is: how is it physically possible for a woman to birth six babies in nine minutes? Can you imagine going through something like this? What do you think of Thelma’s birth story?
